Gokshura is one of the most important medicinal herbs in Ayurveda. It is especially famous for its powerful effects on urinary health, kidney function, reproductive strength, and vitality.
In classical Ayurvedic texts, Gokshura is described as a Rasayana (rejuvenating herb) and is widely used in weakness, infertility, urinary disorders, and sexual health problems.
It is a main ingredient in many Ayurvedic medicines for kidney and urinary diseases.
Gokshura is a highly valued medicinal herb in Ayurveda traditionally known for supporting kidney health, urinary wellness, vitality, reproductive strength, and overall balance. Scientifically identified as Tribulus terrestris, Gokshura has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine as a powerful rejuvenating and strengthening herb.
Ayurveda particularly values Gokshura for its ability to support the urinary system (Mutravaha Srotas), nourish body tissues, improve stamina, and promote healthy kidney function. It is commonly used in traditional Ayurvedic formulations for urinary discomfort, water retention, weakness, and reproductive wellness.
Gokshura is traditionally beneficial for:
- Urinary tract support
- Kidney wellness
- Reproductive vitality
- Muscle strength
- General weakness and fatigue
- Vata and Pitta balance
Its cooling, nourishing, and strengthening nature makes it especially useful in conditions involving urinary irritation, dehydration, burning sensation, and tissue weakness.
Modern herbal studies suggest that Tribulus terrestris contains saponins, flavonoids, antioxidants, and bioactive compounds that may support urinary health, physical endurance, and general vitality.

Appearance of Gokshura
Gokshura is a perennial herb that grows prostrate or decumbent with a woody rootstock. Its compound leaves measure 3-7 cm in length, with one leaf in each pair being alternately smaller. The leaflets, numbering between 8 and 14, are egg-shaped to elliptic, ranging from 4 to 11 mm long and 2 to 5 mm broad, with an oblique base and a pointed or rounded apex. The herb produces solitary yellow flowers, 8-10 mm across, in the leaf axils. The fruits are spiny, measuring about 1-1.5 cm across, and split into 4-5 mericarps, each bearing four sharp, rigid spines. Each mericarp contains 3 to 4 seeds.
